TGIF.  We have a busy couple of days.  Today, we have a big morning meeting to go over the design specs on our new PR & Marketing program that we unveil April 1 (it's no April Fools).  Then, we spend the afternoon moving product back and forth to various JBLM units - we are building the welcome home baskets for returning single soldiers.
Tomorrow, we are introducing JaBLAM Man to the military community as we work our booth at JBLM's Flea Market at the American Lake Club.  We'll pass out balloons to the kids, plus continue our sign-ups for the Hawaii trip we are giving away at the end of the year.

With the baby shower behind us, we are in the planning stages for our next events.  First, we'll attend the regular monthly newcomers briefing on Tuesday - this is our chance to meet the new folks arriving at the Joint Base.
Then, On March 5th, we are sponsoring the Spring Flea Market at the American Lake Club - this will be our first opportunity to promote our new discount and coupon site online - we'll likely bring our mascot and everything.  We'll also hand out our signature goody bags.
We are also providing door prizes for a couple BOSS events, including their poker night.
On March 25th, we will bring our mobile video game trailer to the wounded warrior's Chili Cook-off - that will surely be a highlight in March.
Finally, on March 31st, we sponsor Kids Fest on JBLM - we are bringing the video game trailer to that one too.
Besides all of that, we continue to lead the efforts to put welcome baskets in all returning single Soldiers and Airmen barracks when they return from war.  We have raised the needed funding for the 864th, a contingent from the Yakima Training Center and the 62nd Med.  A shout-out to Cal Portland for also providing the funds for the 62nd's April 7th BBQ, and to AUSA and the Pierce Military Business Alliance (which we are a member) for supporting the 864th's return. And finally, to Major Elvis Coronado and his lovely wife, Amy for supporting the Yakima soldiers' return.  It is so great to have so many friends!!

We have been running a couple booths this weekend.  Yesterday, Gina and Tabitha from our office were on McChord Field for MWR's Operation Care Fair.  We handed out our bags filled with goodies from our clients, plus took sign-ups for our Mexico give-away.  Right now, Alasdair is over at the Nelson Rec Center on JBLM-Main working the Superbowl booth where we are handing out chances to win tickets to the Globetrotters.  Great weekend.  Of course the big show is next Sunday - Our Operation Baby Shower, up to 739 registrations with a week to go.

On Monday, the Weekly Volcano received the Community Stewardship 2011 award from Go Local Tacoma during the Shift Happens event at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center. Go Local President Patricia Lecy-Davis commended the Volcano on its community involvement, its dedication to championing Tacoma and its support of all things "cool," handing the award to co-publisher Ron Swarner.
"There are so many cool things happening in our beloved city, and I want everyone to have the chance to be a part of them," says Swarner. "Last night's impressive turnout, Mayor Marilyn Strickland's State of the City address, the energy - I left Shift Happens proud of our city, and especially proud of our weekly newspaper. I would like to thank Go Local Tacoma from my heart."
The Weekly Volcano, and its parent company Swarner Communications, is a founding member of Go Local Tacoma.

Joint Base Talk Radio 11/02/2009

Beginning this Thursday, we are launching Joint Base Talk Radio to the masses via the Internet.  We will focus exclusively on deals and support available to the military community in the South Sound by highlighting programs, services and discounts offered locally, nationally, even internationally to our brave men and women of the Armed Forces.  This week we look at two special programs designed for the spouses of the 5th Stryker Brigade, we give a few tips for those attending this weekend's Children's Deployment Fair, we take a sneak peek at a Valentine's event for the spouses of deployed soldiers and airmen, and we present a few Web sites where military families can take advantage of free stuff.

The radio show will be live, but also available for playback 24/7.  And, these episodes will feature our PR clients in the advertising slots at no extra charge to our clients. Additional spots will also be available for sale

Valentine's Day is set 10/28/2009

The Fort Lewis Ranger newspaper, along with our clients, will host a Valentine's Day out for the spouses of deployed soldiers on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14th from 2-7 p.m. at St. Martin's University in Lacey.

It's completely free to the spouses.  The event will include a fashion show, food, clinics, "spa time," drinks, games, entertainment - all with a Las Vegas theme – all for free and in honor of the spouses.

Valentines Day will be tough for so many spouses here in the South Sound as their loved ones serve overseas – this is an opporunity to let them know that we are thinking of them.

Lakewood Ford Won't Forget 10/05/2009

Lakewood Ford has made the commitment to run a monthly ad in the Fort Lewis Ranger commemorating the soldiers from Fort Lewis that died during that month. Running under the banner, "We will not forget," the local dealership believes strongly that the men and women who die in service of their country deserve nothing less.  Publishing the photos in the Ranger's NW Veteran section, September was a lengthy ad – over 15 photos and names were added to the space.
